Art As A Form Of Summoning
And, inevitably, summoning as a form of art
The hosts of one of my favourite podcasts, Weird Studies, Phil Ford and JF Martel, joined me for a chat about art as evocation this week.
This is a chat I sprung on them while on Tasmania’s wild west coast for a grimoiric operation. While driving around to some cave sites in the Tarkine, I listened to a recent episode of Weird Studies about Orson Welles’s classic F For Fake. Phil and JF explored the shamanic or at least shamanish use of trickery to tell creative truth, the Vaudeville origins of Hollywood and the creative necessity of slant storytelling. The dovetailing of my spirit work and their discussion was too delicious to pass by, So I sprung the possibility of putting those topics in a frame of looking at
Art as evocation.
Evocation of art.
Whether you every really ‘think something up’ yourself, or
Where and with whom does one create.
And they said yes! Amazing chat. I’ll have more to say about this topic area in the coming month or so. Here on Substack and probably also on YouTube. But until then, catch the show here. Good times. And join Phil and JF’s member community, The Weirdosphere here.

Heck yeah!
I have so much to say about all of this. At almost every point I was speaking at my car radio wildly lol! Great podcast episode
